The Textile Trap: Building the Wardrobe Micro-Loop

Welcome back to the Project Clean Up (PCU) weekly newsletter! Over the past few weeks, we have engineered the "Micro-Loop" for the modern apartment, finding ways to divert organics and packaging away from the communal dumpster. But there is a massive, often-ignored elephant in the room: our clothes.

The textile industry is one of the most chemically intensive and wasteful sectors on the planet. Most modern clothing is a complex blend of natural fibers and synthetic polymers (like polyester and elastane), making them nearly impossible to traditionally recycle. When you are strapped for space, a bag of torn or outgrown clothes usually meets one of two fates: the municipal trash, or a local donation bin.

But as we will explore today, the "donation" route is often just a delayed trip to the landfill. This week, we are taking control of the fabric of our lives.
