The Printed Sun: Perovskites and the End of Rigid Solar
Welcome back to the Project Clean Up (PCU) weekly newsletter! We have spent the last two weeks analyzing the mechanics of extreme temperatures, exploring how advanced alloys shield fusion reactors and how magnetocaloric materials might banish toxic refrigerants.
Today, we return to the surface to address how we gather energy from the sky.
For decades, the solar industry has been dominated by crystalline silicon. It is reliable, but it is also heavy, rigid, and energy-intensive to manufacture, requiring furnaces that burn at 1,500°C. If we want to integrate solar power into every window, curved rooftop, and autonomous vehicle, we cannot rely on heavy, rigid panels.
This week, we explore the technology that is currently rewriting the rules of solar energy in 2026: Perovskite Solar Cells (PSCs). We are moving from the era of "building" solar panels to the era of "printing" them.
