The Frictionless City: Solid-State Mobility and the Urban Mesh
Welcome back to the Project Clean Up (PCU) weekly newsletter! Throughout July, we designed the ultimate autonomous building: it traps carbon in its bio-cement walls, generates its own power, recycles its own water, and grows its own food.
But a city is not just a collection of isolated fortresses. The true test of urban infrastructure is how humans move between these spaces.
For the last century, urban mobility has been defined by the personal automobile—a massive, inefficient metal box that sits parked 95% of its life. While the transition to Electric Vehicles (EVs) solved tailpipe emissions, replacing a 4,000-pound gas car with a 5,000-pound lithium-ion car does not solve traffic, spatial inefficiency, or the massive microplastic pollution generated by heavy rubber tires on asphalt.
This week, we step out the front door and explore the future of movement: The Micromobility Mesh powered by Solid-State Batteries (SSBs).
